WhatsApp Send Messages feature has been launched by the Facebook-owned instant messaging app which gives group admins an option to restrict members from messaging in WhatsApp Groups. Here’s how it works.
WhatsApp has added a lot of new features to its instant-messaging app and while it just announced the Media Visibility option, here comes another practical feature dubbed as the ‘WhatsApp Send Messages’ which will now let group admins to restrict other members from sending messages in any particular group.
Update: The new Group setting for admins has now been officially rolled out for all users. The company announced the rollout over the weekend and said that one way people on WhatsApp use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centres, and non-profit organisations.
In a statement to TimesNow, WhatsApp added: “We’re launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group.” WhatsApp added that the new Group setting will give admins better tools for such use cases. That being said, the feature has been launched for WhatsApp beta users running Android version 2.18.201 and iOS version 2.18.70 on their apps. On the other hand, the group members will be restricted to send any content in the group such as text, media, video, audio, gifs, or documents as the group admins won’t have the option to modify the WhatsApp Send Messages feature.
How to restrict a member from messaging in WhatsApp Groups
Step 1: If you are a group admin, tap on the Group Info option.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on the Group Settings option.
Step 3: There will the Send Messages option, tap on it.
Step 4: Choose Only admins and now all the group members will have to take your approval for messaging in the group.
All the group members will now receive a notification regarding the change in settings and they will need to use the “Message Admin” option in order to message any content to the group. However, the said content will need your approval, or any other admin’s, in order to be visible to all the other members. That being said, the WhatsApp Send Messages feature doesn’t have any modification option to restrict selected individuals or a particular type of content in the group.
